It’s summer, which means it’s time for cooling foods, bathing suites, and lots of outdoor activity!!
With this fun season upon us, the last thing we want to worry about is feeling bloated and constipated. That is probably one of the least attractive (and comfortable) accessories to have at the pool.
Well, this Digestion Supporting Creamy Blueberry Smoothie is the perfect recipe for chilling out in the summer and improving your digestion so you don’t feel puffy taking a dip in the pool.
The major player in this gut and digestion supporting smoothie is the psyllium husk powder.
Psyllium husk comes from the Plantago ovata plant and is grown world wide. It is a clean and natural form of dense soluble fiber (the fiber that our gut absorbs and uses to feed the probiotics, which is everything for gut and digestion). It’s so beneficial for digestion that companies like Metamucil use it in their products to help people poop. However, using straight up psyllium husk in real food recipes is a much cleaner way to use it as you are avoiding all of the additives.
People that start including psyllium husk in their diet often notice that they become much more regular, which is why I’m including it in this recipe. If you don’t have it, the smoothie is still delicious without it, it will just have less fiber.
We also have other fiber filled foods like blueberries, greens, frozen cauliflower, and chia seeds, bringing one serving of this smoothie up to 20 grams of fiber! That is more than half the fiber you need in a day!
Enjoy!
Takes about 5 minutes to make, is about 1 large serving.
